Open House Pavilion of Bamboo

West Kowloon Cultural District, Hong Kong / Competition 2017 /  Highlighted Entry

01.jpg

The project is to design a temporary and recyclable pavilion for small public events and leisure use at West Kowloon Cultural District waterfront in Hong Kong. Built with modulated bamboo framework, the pavilion is designed for efficient construction and transport. Inspired by traditional bamboo bird cages widely found in old Hong Kong, the pavilion is composed of three  open ‘cages’ that creates a common open house of art and culture that is shared by people with all different backgrounds. When the pavilion is no longer in use, the bamboo parts will be turned into scaffolding materials for building up Hong Kong in the future, hence extending the life of the project.
